Conversation 1#

7.38pm
Lagu Ohbladi Ohblada; The Beatles, berkumandang tertulis di skrin telefon mobil "Family-Babah" dengan gambar Babah sengih.

"Hello Assalamualaikum, Bah! Ni Dikyan dah keluar office, kat Tun Perak. Balik makan.."

"Waalaikummusalam.

Pusing satu Taman Tun, bangun pagi, pastu singgah Mohsin lama, melantak roti canai. Dulu basikal tak ada raga langsung.

Insya Allah lepas ni basikal ada raga.

:D

3. C

C is for CHANGLUN.

Isn't that obvious?

Honestly, I love Changlun.

The best cendol would be near Kampung Darat/Jalan tikus ke CMART..... well, I should make a map to explain where it is. They sell cendol pulut (pernah makan sekali, not my taste), Mee Kari, dan the normal cendol.. The Makcik is an otai Makcik yang buat semua dari rumah dia sebelah kedai. haha... even once, the Makcik let us to use her Batu Tumbuk. Blame it on our fat stomachs, rumah Auntie Lin time tu tak ada batu tumbuk, pinjam la dia..hihi..

The cheapest hair cut you can find in Changlun is bawah jambatan. (ganas wei, Ahmoi tu gunting rambut, once i brought Mak to trim her hair there, she said "Gunting la tempat lain, ganas nya dia ni") Ahmoi ni jangan main-main. Anak dia seorang lelaki, rajin buat homework, pukul 4.00pm dah menelaah. Tengah khusyuk dia trim rambut saya, datang la anak dia, cakap Mandrin, tanya perihal kerja rumah. mak dia jawab. Datang lagi sekali, Mak dia jawab, sambil tengking.

Akak dia, tengok dia, gelak-gelak. Lepas 3 minit lebih kurang, dia datang balik kat mak dia, mak dia bagi hadiah penampar, sambil ketap bibir. Punya la semangat.

Yes, I was at the shop. Lepas tu, taubat dah tak mahu datang lagi. Come to think of it, I should have just made a report. And yes, the Ahmoi managed to trim the hair according to my instruction, Alhamdulillah.

So, basuh la kereta, sambil baca Harian Metro. Esok hari, macam biasa, nak singgah CMART, beli tisu/irrelevant things/nak aircond pasal Sintok panas/masuk Watson for no reason at all.(Itu normal, Watson tu dah macam 2nd home.)

Magis sungguh. Terkesima, terkedu, dah tak tahu nak buat apa, tak sempat cakap selamat tinggal pada Uncle Car Wash yang selalu provide Harian Metro ketika nak tunggu kereta, pada anak dia yang gigih buat kerja sekolah ditemani mak beliau yang dedikasi bukan macam yang tampar anak dia tadi tu,

Dekat Belakang Pokok Ceri ada Char Kuew Teow sedap. Bersih la jugak, dan ada banyak kucing. Masa zaman Kedah banjir, ada la sempat makan kat situ 2 kali.Dapat udang gemuk-gemuk Pelik pun ada.

Dekat Changlun kena tahu kedai buka pukul berapa. Pasal depa buka ikut suka hati, kecuali 7eleven. Ada buka 10am, ada buka 2pm. Memang ikut hati, Dan Jumaat memang depa tutup, kecuali CMART.

Di Changlun juga, ada pelbagai jenis manusia. Ada satu orang gila ni, stylo la juga dan selalu bawa Milo Ais, gengam plastik Milo Ais (eh, tak pernah rasa, teka je), jalan-jalan, angkat tangan, sengih, bebel sorang-sorang..pernah nampak dia cakap dengan anjing, muka confident.... Kalau nampak Auntie gila ni, otak mesti nyanyi lagu ni Nananananannannanaaaa (ATNM's anthem).

Pasar Malam Changlun, kau kena tunggu musim durian/buah/puasa.

The glorious, super magnificent building would be C-MART. Walaupun KFC sekarang dah ada, aku rasa CMART nadi penggerak ekonomi Changlun. (Hek?) Dalam CMART ada CMART la, dia ni macam Tesco/Walmart/Coles/Giant tapi ni made in Malaysia. Biarlah rahsia.

Dalam CMART ada Cool Blog. Cool habis la tu. Memang habis pun, habis duit aku. Semester 8, lepas habis each paper, me and my girls (Insert: Nananananannanananana...ATNM anthem) akan bergegas ke CMART untuk Cool Blog.Aku dulu tak layan, konon tak KL la tu. Tapi tengok depa duk sedut-sedut pearl apa entah tu, so i tried. And I dislike the pearl drink, tapi suka ice lemon and soursope plus yogurt blended. After exam, bila minum rasa ....chileexxxxx. Ni aku ni bila dah duduk rumah for good, Cool Blog ada je kat Tesco Setia Alam, Fisa bagitahu. Tapi tak pernah try, pasal sini ada Boost Juice, lagi best, lagi mahal, lagi pokai, minum 3 bulan sekali la boleh la kan...!

Oh yeah, tadi pergi check website Cool Blog, depa dah ada membership card. I dont know how it works, but, to UUM-ers, pergi la apply membership.

So aku syorkan kau kenali Changlun, aman tempat tu, tak ada kesesakkan lalu lintas.

Untuk juniors yang tengah exam, ALL THE BEST. :)

Ingat je la, setelah sukar, juakan senang. Ye, lirik lagu Hafiz, Watak.

2. B

B is for Balance.

Balance is the key. You can be the most intelligent student in your batch but you fail to know the differences between Arau & Kangar, then Im sorry to say, you are a loser.

Come on, life is not about books and cases. Life in Sintok, especially, is about seizing the moments. Grab every chance that you have and enjoy it. Dont be a bookworm, move around. Volunteer, or join Lawsoc, Mooting, Client Consultation play go cart, see the monkeys, and yes, good food.

Dont just stick with the same old crowd, the same old coursemates, the same old batchmates. Make friends with others. Since its normal to hear people complaining about law students being super elite among themselves, so mix around la ..
___________________________
Another B is that the Burger in MISC.

This burger in MISC is contagious. If one buys it, another will want to have it, too. Its addictive, thanks to MSG, i suppose. It is open till 11.30pm (if youre lucky). Or you can try burger YAB. it closes at 2am, (ONLY if you're lucky).

Usually me and my girls will drive to MISC after night classes and grab that super delicious addictive burger. I will usually buy Ayam Double Special Cheese (Hence, another reason of fatty arms) and the rest will buy according to their needs.

Once, Farrah was on diet or on a very tight budget, she bought the roti without the burger, just to feed her not so hungry stomach. hahahahahaahha

Another B is for Bundle. The cheapest bundle is in Kedah, RM1.00. If you wander around the web, the normal vintage dress will cost you around RM30.00 but in Sintok its RM1.00- 3.00. I bought 3 boyfriends' blazer for RM3.50, (and the buttons/price tag is still attached to it) but remember, dont forget to 'Dettol' it, OK?
___________________

The last B would be, BAKTISISWA.

You dont know what Baktisiswa is??? Where have you been, weii????

Yes, yes, some will say ' I have to sacrifice my holy holidays'.. 'I dont like living with foster family who might have unclean bed/toilet/dapur'. or 'I tak biasa bergaul dengan orang kampung'.

What doesn't break you, makes you strong, kan?

Who cares if you have to sacrifice your semester break, just go do it. Dont worry, most of the family are very open and they will try tolerate to your 'antics'. So just sign in, participate, so that you can say to others, been there, done that.

I participated and even co-managed it and honestly, deep down inside, menyesal tak participate dari dulu.

The benefits?? Experience for sure.

Maybe you will have your first ever experience of siang the ikan , like one of my junior had. She was like ' OMG, aku siang ikan, aku siang ikan guna tangan wei!!' Yup like that.

Or it will be your first time ridding a motorcycle, like yours truly, thanks to Nora. (i was just the pillion rider...without the helmet.)

Or your first ever 'tandas di luar rumah'. Hahahahahaha.

Or it will be your first time having the best home-made gulai rebung/laksa perlis.

And the best part is, they treat you as if you are part of the family. The little kids will look up on you and will ask you many things about learning in a Uni and sometimes, they will call you just to give you motivational support in the midst of final examination. Yup, they are like that.
A junior of mine has a great relationship with her foster family, since shes from East Malaysia, they will call her up and ask her to tumpang their home during mid semester break. They even send her to Alor Star Airport during long semester break. How nice is that, right?

See, this has strengthened the relationship between two different set of people from 2 different world. They learn about another religion, culture and perhaps learn to accept differences between them.

We always get wedding invitations (of which they will always serve good home made lauk kampung,), even if its the family's kakak ipar's wedding, etc...they will invite.

Obviously, Baktisiswa's mission is not to get free good food, its about to have an open mind. Accepting the fact that we are all different, yet the same. To count your blessings, admit that different people have different difficulties, and to thank God, you have been blessed. I've learnt that life is not about money after all. (Though you can have a nice pair of leather shoes)

For me, I used to have this specific mentality that only this particular way can change -------- , but after the Baktisiswa, I changed my mind. I learnt that different approach is needed because they have different set of minds, needs and priorities.

And the best part is, you know that you have given back to the society!

Get that lazy bum of yours and volunteer! Trust me, you will never ever regret it. To the urbanites or yang perasan urbanites, this is your chance to assimilate with the orang kampung, learn the hard way and experience it while you can, grab the chance!

So move around, eat Burger MISC and participate in Baktisiswa. And remember to BALANCE!

1. A

Tips Pelajar Junior Semester 1 UUM.

Its all up to you. Dan oleh sebab tidak mahu nampak formal, mahu ringkas dan funky, rojak is the language!

1. A Dalam Genggaman

ye la, A.

A
A

First day kau masuk hutan sintok, kau kena tanamkan semangat nak kumpul A banyak-banyak dalam slip keputusan peperiksaan kau.

Kenapa kau kena dapat A? Pasal nanti dah 3rd year, 4th year, orang cakap (orang cakap, bukan aku yang cakap) susah nak dapat A. Honestly, bagi aku, 3rd year and 4th year yang telah memberi aku sinar harapan dapat result yang Alhamdulillah. Well, maybe the subjects were super interesting. (Ie: Family Law, Industrial Securities Law, Evidence, etc). So, again, since everything is still blur, you never know your future, why dont you get your A's as soon as possible, kan?

Tekan kan sekali lagi,
A
dalam
Genggaman.

Print besar-besar, letak kat locker korang, gambar gengaman tangan, tulis besar-besar, "A dalam Genggaman.

Tapi, kau genggaman sampai urat terputus pun, kau tak buat apa-apa, library tak pernah masuk, buka portal library still mintak kawan, sorry la, A bukan dalam genggaman.

And yes, this is university. So, it depends.

Kenapa aku cakap macam ni, pasal aku rasa, orang pandai macam mana pun, kalau masuk Uni or specifically, budak law, tak pergi kelas, and tak pernah/jarang dengar lecture, susah nak score.

Kau tak pernah kan, dengar orang cakap "Oh budak law, mesti kau suka melukis".

Pernah tak? Tak, kan?

Kenapa kena A? Ye memang orang cakap A tak penting, nanti kerja tengok tabiat. Tapi logiknya, takkan la majikan nak ambil student takat kumpul cukup makan ye dok? Tapi nak tahu kau dapat maintain sikap bekerja dengan tekun, however, bukanlah A yardstick nya..

So,getting A's is good because: For the sake of your future. Nevertheless, one should remember that, it does not stop here....As must come will B.

What is B? Nice.

p/s; ye selalu aku letak lirik lagu, tapi kali ni aku nak letak lain. Tekan ni.

Oh yeah, aku akan dapat kakak, very soon!

tarawikh

Yes, the kids are noisy,
Yes, the kids are annoying (sometimes).

BUT,

that does not justify our act to prevent them from going to Mosque. Remember, they are kids. The parents are subjected to their acts.

Parents should demand the kids to pray NEXT to them. Educate about the importance of respecting others who pray, and the relevancy of praying at mosque.

And dont forget to praise them if they follow such demand and remain silent/ behave well.

If they try these, insya-Allah the kids will not run amok during prayers. Ive recently witnessed this, actually. They put the kids in between the guys, and the little girls to pray next to their mother and voila, they behave well.

Personal experiences during my younger years thought me that this method is effective, too.

Come to think again, if not Ramadhan, if not tarawikh i reckon the parents do not have such free time to bring the kids to mosque, right?

Mosque should welcome kids, so that when they grow up, they know that going to the mosque to pray is a cool thing, and a right thing to do. And that the mosque is one of the places for them to seek solace, rather than Doraisamy, Changkat or even Redbox.

To justify and understand my contention, read this.

Perhaps, this may help us all. And this, too (how interesting, they even provide the worksheet!).
Something new (of which we do not want this to happen here in Malaysia), read this.

P/s; This post is written due to an incident at a particular place, that made me ponder and think, seriously on the impact of minimal encouragement for parents to bring the kids to mosque and pray.
