thanks to the media now im reading law

Watching movies,and TV series that falsely portrayed the glamorous life of the legal profession, they made me triggered to learn law for sure.

But actually, it was all because of the media.

Growing up with the habit of reading the newspaper right after I reached home everyday from school, I’ve been indirectily thought that the people being reported as the so called criminals are wrong, and that’s it. The media back then used to potray that every single person on trial / prosecuted under the law will always be liable to the offence and will always be found guilty.

Reading the Mona Fendi news in the papers, I used to think that, why in the world that the lawyer would defence such a horrible person. No doubt that she is guilty. Why on earth must we waste our time to go on a trial when you know that she is guilty.

I don’t blame the media, but the skeptical idea towards the 'criminals' of mine was being sculptured and designed by them back them.

Its like watching a foreign movie without the subtitles, where you just happily assume everything. There isn’t any two way communications. You only listen, but you don't understand it since there isn't any subtitle available.You watch, you read from one side of the coint. Both sides stories never happened in the media.

Well, it has changed after the infamous DSAI cases. Everybody was in hyped about it. Everybody overwhelmingly gave their two cents opinion regarding the issues. It was a pointing fingers period back then, remember? It was who was telling the truth. Everybody tried to be God tho,its God Al Mighty who decides. (on this matter alone, it is another issue. But i would say, Allah knows best. If the person is wrongly convicted and accused by the judge, he shall receive God's loves and kindness, right? That is Allah's job.)

The media was only telling the one side of the story, which indeed the thirsty and concerned readers wanted to know more. They want to listen to the other side of the story. Later we realised that, we could not just rely on the mainstream media.

I mean, if you want to know the truth, both party must be given the equal opportunity to be heard. Its called natural justice.

And next you see, the alternative media, transparency, independence of the judiciary, nepotism, cronyism were the main topics in mamak stalls, kopitiam.

I still remember I used to wait in front of the television just to watch the news about Anwar Ibrahim. Everybody was being critical, cynical and also became aware of the state of our Malaysia. And i used to wonder, 'kenapa asyik pendakwa raya je yang bebel kat TV? yang part lagi satu tu, memang tak dapat liputan ek??"

So i read anything i could from the alternative media.

And that made me think.

After a while, I realised that legal profession is not that hyped and dandy. Its not all Prada and nice-fitting suits.Its about passion. For this, i thank to Atticus Finch and the media.

p/s; to say and use the word 'everybody' is such a hasty generalisation, ey? lets just say, concerned Malaysians.
